Troubleshooting Scheduled Agents

Fix scheduled agents that don't run, run late, or stop for approval.

The Agent Didn't Run

  • Is it turned on? Check its switch on the Scheduled Agents page.
  • Was your computer awake? Scheduled agents run on your computer. If it was off or asleep, the run happens when it wakes, but only if it's no more than 5 minutes late. To always run late jobs, edit the agent and check Never skip late runs, or raise Skip if late by (minutes).
  • Is the schedule right? Hover over the schedule on the Scheduled Agents page to see the next run time. Remember that cron schedules use your computer's local time zone.
  • Is AgentOne installed normally? The system scheduler opens AgentOne with an agent-one:// link. If those links don't open AgentOne, see Deep Links.

The Agent Ran, but Stopped

If the prompt uses a tool that needs approval, the run waits for you. Open the chat (it has a clock icon in the sidebar) and approve or deny the tool. To avoid this for agents that run while you're away:

  • Turn off Require Approval for the tools the agent needs in Settings -> Tools, or
  • Set Tool Behavior to YOLO (auto-run) in a new chat so it becomes the default for new chats, including scheduled runs. Only do this if you trust the prompt and tools.

The Schedule Won't Save

AgentOne uses your operating system's scheduler, which has a few limits:

  • On Windows, a schedule can't need more than 48 Task Scheduler triggers. Simplify very complex schedules.
  • On macOS, schedules that need a very large number of separate times can fail. Try a simpler expression.

The Agent Used the Wrong Model

Scheduled runs use your default model for new chats. To change it, start a new chat, pick the model you want, and close the chat. See Default Model for New Chats.

A Window Flashes on Windows

Since AgentOne 1.1.2, scheduled agents no longer open a PowerShell window when they run. Update AgentOne from Settings -> Help & Updates.
