Sync & Privacy

What AgentOne syncs between your devices, what stays on your computer, and where your data goes.

AgentOne is private by default. Your chats, files, and API keys stay on your computer. If you sign in, AgentOne can sync your settings across devices.

Turn Sync On or Off

Settings sync is on by default when you're signed in. To change it, open Settings -> Account and use Synchronize my settings.

Changes sync a couple of seconds after you make them, and AgentOne also does a full sync when you sign in and every hour. If you change the same setting on two devices, the most recent change wins.

What Syncs

When sync is on, these sync between your devices:

  • Appearance, chat, performance, and keyboard shortcut settings
  • Your name, AI instructions, and memories
  • Which built-in tools are turned on and how they're configured
  • Text-to-speech settings (but not the API key)
  • Chat background choices and effects (custom image files stay on each device)
  • Chat title settings

What Stays on Each Device

These never leave your computer:

Chats and attachmentsA local database on your computer
API keys and your sign-in tokenYour system's secure keychain
Provider settings and custom providersLocal app storage
ExtensionsLocal app storage
Scheduled agentsLocal app storage and your system's scheduler

Coming to paid plans

Chat sync and encrypted API key sync are planned for paid plans and are rolling out in beta. Until they're available on your account, set up providers and extensions on each device.

See Data Locations for the exact folders on each operating system.

Where Your Messages Go

AgentOne sends your messages only to the AI model you choose:

  • AgentOne's model: messages go through AgentOne's servers to the model provider that handles your request.
  • Your own provider: messages go directly from your computer to that provider (like OpenAI or Anthropic), using your API key.
  • Local models: messages stay on your computer with Ollama or LM Studio.

Tools only reach the internet when they need to. For example, Search the web queries DuckDuckGo, and extensions connect to whatever service they're built for.

The desktop app doesn't include usage analytics. For details, read the Privacy Policy.
